Our Team
Violet Diaz, Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern
As an Incoming Intern, I am excited to introduce myself to you! I’m someone who finds joy in journaling, brewing the perfect cup of coffee, and immersing myself in the outdoors. There’s something about being in nature—whether it’s hiking through the woods or enjoying a quiet sunrise—that grounds me. Music is another constant in my life, offering a soundtrack to my day and serving as an emotional outlet.
As a first-generation graduate from a family of seven, I’m deeply motivated to bring my dreams to life. My journey has been one of breaking barriers and creating new opportunities—not just for myself, but for others who may not have had access to the same resources. This drive led me into the mental health field, where I’m passionate about supporting people through challenges like trauma, anxiety, stress, eating disorders, and sexual assault advocacy. These areas are particularly meaningful to me because I believe in the power of healing and in making mental health resources accessible to everyone, regardless of their background.
I am especially interested in providing trauma-informed care, person-centered therapy, and utilizing CBT and mindfulness approaches. These methods allow me to tailor my support to each individual’s needs, creating a safe and empowering space for healing and personal growth. As I continue learning and growing in my role, I am excited to expand my ability to support clients with a variety of mental health concerns beyond trauma, anxiety, stress, eating disorders, and sexual assault. I believe every individual’s journey is unique, and I’m committed to providing a compassionate, empathetic space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to navigate their challenges. I’m passionate about using telehealth to break down barriers and create accessible care options that meet clients where they are. My goal is to not only help individuals heal but also to equip them with the tools and support they need for long-term well- being and resilience.
Shanie Matthews, Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern
Hi, I’m Shanie Matthews, and I’m honored to be joining Hanan Counseling Services as a Clinical Mental Health Intern! My journey into this field has been shaped by over 15 years in the wellness industry as a certified yoga therapist, somatic practitioner, and mindfulness coach. Through my work, I’ve helped individuals navigate the connection between mental and physical health, supporting them in building resilience, regulating their nervous systems, and fostering a sense of empowerment in their healing journeys.
I have a deep passion for trauma-informed care, particularly working with individuals experiencing PTSD, anxiety, depression, and the lasting effects of trauma. My approach integrates evidence-based practices with somatic awareness, mindfulness, and a holistic understanding of well-being, incorporating Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), neurosequencing, and strength-based approaches. I strive to create a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where clients feel safe, supported, and empowered to explore their emotions and move toward healing.
I’m excited to be part of this community and look forward to supporting clients on their path to greater mental and emotional well-being!
